Call to scrap Batu Caves condo project

AT THE DEWAN RAKYAT
Reports by MARTIN CARVALHO, YUEN MEIKENG and RAHIMY RAHIM

DAP national chairman Karpal Singh wants the Selangor Government to scrap the controversial 29-storey condominium project near Batu Caves.

He also called for an end to the blame game whether it was the Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat state government which was responsible for approving the project.

Karpal (DAP – Bukit Gelugor) said he fully supported Batu Caves temple committee chairman Datuk R. Nadarajah’s warning that the matter would be taken to court if the project was not scrapped within a month.

“In the event the matter is taken to court, I will offer my services pro bono to ensure a judicial pronouncement in favour of the temple committee,” he said in a statement issued at the Parliament lobby.

It was reported that Batu Caves would face the risk of caving in if the condominium project were to proceed.

Karpal said the limestone formation in Batu Caves was a priceless asset that should be preserved.

“A world renowned heritage should not be allowed to be sacrificed at the convenience of material development,” he said.
