Opposition asks Government to provide info on RM67bil Selangor projects
Reports by MAZWIN NIK ANIS, RAHIMY RAHIM and YVONNE LIM
AN OPPOSITION member has called on the Government to provide details on the development projects in Selangor said to be worth RM67bil.
During the debate on the Supply Bill 2013, Azmin Ali (PKR-Gombak) made the call to rebut claims made by Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan (BM-Kota Belud) and Khairy Jamaluddin (BN-Rembau).
He asked for the projects be listed and audited.
“Barisan MPs claim that RM67bil was given to Selangor but between January and September this year the state only received RM264mil when it contributes 23% of the Gross Domestic Product.
“We now want to see the details because the rakyat has the right to know who were awarded the projects, the value and whether the awards were done through direct negotiation or open tender,” he said.
Debating the Bill, Wee Choo Keong (Independent-Wangsa Maju) also called for accountability but on the part of officials in GLCs.
He claimed that certain individuals in GLCs, whose salaries reached hundreds of thousands of ringgit, had become arrogant and that, instead of assuming the rakyat were their bosses, they acted like lords.
“The way some little Napoleans are acting has brought the rakyat to have a negative perception of the Government and this an issue that needs to be addressed,” he said.
Nancy Shukri (BN-Batang Sadong) lamented on how the Opposition treated its women.
She said it was wrong for the Opposition to accuse the Government of not providing much for women in the Budget 2013 after getting former Permatang Pauh MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to relinquish her seat for husband Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“You accuse the Government of not being gender sensitive, but who had to make way for a man to take over a parliament seat?” she asked.
Khairy Jamaluddin (BN-Rembau) said the Opposition was not gender sensitive when PAS had asked their leaders to take an oath that they would divorce their wives with talak tiga if the women left the party.
