DAP demands that Azmin clarify statement on Selangor MB post
KUALA LUMPUR: The spat in Pakatan Rakyat over a controversial statement by PKR deputy president Azmin Ali on the Selangor Mentri Besar's post has escalated with DAP joining the fray.
Selangor DAP vice chairman Charles Santiago is the latest to demand that Azmin clarify his statement published in a Malay daily, which implied that Pakatan would appoint a new Mentri Besar should it retain Selangor in the general election.
“I believe it is Azmin's personal view. He needs to justify how and where the decision on the matter was made,” Santiago told online portal The Mole here yesterday.
The Klang MP also denied that the Pakatan leadership had held a discussion in the state on Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim's tenure as Mentri Besar.
“There was no such discussion or arrangement.
“I do not know what transpired that led to Azmin's statement but as for now, I can only say that it is merely his personal opinion,” he said.
Azmin, who is also the Gombak MP, had said that Khalid would be given a ministerial post should Pakatan take over the Federal Government.
There has been speculation in the past that Azmin is eyeing the Mentri Besar post.
Azmin has also come under fire from his own party members, with PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar describing the statement as “just an opinion”, saying that it would have been better if Azmin had brought up the issue with the Pakatan leadership first.
Abdul Khalid's political secretary Faekah Husin had also expressed her disappointment that both PKR and Azmin had not discussed the matter with their office first.
Lambasting Azmin, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali pointed out that the matter was never discussed at Pakatan's leadership council meetings.
