DPM: All graduates from teacher education institutions will get postings

By PRIYA KULASEGARAN

PETALING JAYA: The Government will offer teacher postings to all 10,715 graduates from teacher education institutions and Bachelor of Education graduates from public universities who completed their studies this year, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Government placements are not guaranteed and, earlier this year, a number of graduates had complained that they had yet to get their placements.

Muhyiddin, however, said this was subject to the graduates fulfilling the Education Services Commission's (SPP) criteria and interview process.

“Interviews with the SPP have already been scheduled for 2,960 graduates who completed their studies before July 1.

“While the interviews are being carried out, the ministry will give this group of teachers interim postings from Oct 16 onwards.

“The teachers will be given permanent positions once they pass their interviews,” he said in a statement issued on Friday.

Of these, 2,478 are J-Qaf graduates; 368 are Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) graduates; 90 are Postgraduate Teacher Training Programme (KPLI) graduates; 14 are from the French language programme; and 10 candidates who are repeating their interviews due to option requirements by the ministry.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, said the remaining 7,755 graduates should forward their applications to the SPP to be called for interviews.

“Those (of this second group of graduates) who pass their SPP interviews will be posted in 2013,” he said.
