Ex-navy officer jailed a day and fined over RM9,000 bribe

KUALA LUMPUR: A former navy lieutenant-commander was jailed a day and fined RM45,000 in default a year’s jail by the Sessions Court here for accepting a RM9,000 bribe from a contractor last year.

Sessions judge Rozilah Salleh sentenced Nor Fyadzillah Mohd Taha, 30, who was previously attached to the navy’s human development branch in Wisma Pertahanan, here, after she pleaded guilty to the charge.

Nor Fyadzillah cried when Rozilah sentenced her yesterday. Her husband was present in court.

She was charged with accepting RM9,000 from Mustafa Shah Abdul Hamid as an inducement for her to choose his firm to conduct courses organised by the navy.

The offence was committed at Sekinchan Ikan Bakar, Centrum Setiawangsa, Jalan Setiawangsa 8, Taman Setiawangsa, here at about 1.20pm on July 22, last year.

Nor Fyadzillah was accused under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.

In mitigation, counsel Dir Kheizwan Kamaruddin said his client resigned from the navy last year and was now studying at a public university.

Dir Kheizwan added that his client was married and supported her mother who had diabetes.
