ALOR SETAR: A 52-year-old branch head of a political party has been arrested in connection with the abduction of a 13-year-old son of a dermatologist two weeks ago.

Kedah CID chief Assistant Comm Zakaria Ahmad confirmed the arrest, saying that the man was arrested in front of a restaurant in Jalan Sekerat in Sungai Petani at about 6pm on Saturday.

He said the man was detained following interrogation of the five suspects arrested earlier.

“He has been remanded for five days until Oct 11 to facilitate investigation,” ACP Zakaria said.

The man was among six men who were picked up in connection with the case. The others were arrested on Sept 27 and Sept 28.

Police also recovered RM349,700 of the ransom money paid by the boy's father to the abductors.
