Group beats up man after deadly crash
PETALING JAYA: A group of people beat up a 21-year-old man and set his van on fire in Kota Damansara here following a collision which killed a teen motorcyclist.
During the 11.20pm incident on Saturday in Jalan Pekaka 8/1, the motorcyclist, a 16-year-old boy, suffered severe injuries and died on the way to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
Some people, who had witnessed the accident, then beat up the man before torching his van.
Quick action by the police prevented the man from suffering serious injuries.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed reminded the public not to take the law into their own hands.
He also denied claims that the incident was racially motivated.
“This has nothing to do with racial issues. It was a road accident,” he stressed, adding that the man was assaulted by about 10 people.
The case, he added, would be investigated under the Section 147 and 435 of the Penal Code for rioting and mischief by fire and under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by dangerous driving.
