Genting Sanyen, Segari Energy given 10-year extensions of IPP contract

PUTRAJAYA: Independent power producers (IPP) Genting Sanyen Power and Segari Energy Ventures have been given 10-year extensions of their contracts, said Malaysian Energy Commission chairman Tan Sri Datuk Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali.

The existing contract for Genting Sanyen and Segari Power expires in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Ahmad Tajuddin said TNB Pasir Gudang, which is operating under an agreement, would be given an extension of five years. After 2017, the firm will operate as an IPP.

He said TNB had also been awared the contract to build a RM3bil gas-powered plant capable of producing 1,071MW in Prai, Penang.

There are five IPPs operating in Malaysia.
