Friends deny raping teen

KUALA LUMPUR: Two friends pleaded not guilty to raping an Indonesian teenager and stealing two cellphones from her.

Indonesian factory worker Syamsul Arifin, 24, is accused of raping the 19-year-old at the living room of a Salak South Garden house in Brickfields at 2am on Sept 28.

He is said to have stolen two cellphones from her at 3am on the same day.

His friend 18-year-old Farizal Umam Samhari, a local, faces two similar charges.

The woman lodged a complaint against both men on Oct 3.

Sessions Court judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid denied bail to Syamsul and set bail at RM20,000 for Farizal.

Emelia also prohibited Farizal’s family and friends from contacting the victim.

She ordered for Farizal to report to a police station every Friday and surrender his passport to the court.

The judge set Dec 3 for mention.

DPP was Sarihan Abdul Shatar while A. Krishnaveni represented the accused.
