Irwan: IRB optimistic of hitting RM120bil in revenue this year

By JOSEPH SIPALAN

CYBERJAYA: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has performed beyond expectations for the first 10 months of this year, collecting RM98.4bil in taxes as of Oct 30, said Treasury secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

He said this was RM1.7bil more than the month-on-month target of RM97bil, and is optimistic that the IRB will be able to hit the revenue target of RM120bil this year.

“The collection from January to Oct 30 this year has been above expectations. Despite the global situation, our economy is good and our tax (collection) is still on target.

“Anything additional that we collect is a bonus for the Government, which is why we are giving out things like BR1M (Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia),” Irwan said after launching the IRB's Innovation Day 2012 here.
