KUCHING: The Star’s Sarawak chief sub-editor Jimmy Adit has been conferred the Noble of the Royal Dynasty of Baloi, which carries the title “Dato” from the Royal House of Baloi, Mindanao, the Philippines.

Adit, 57, was conferred the title based on his work in 2010, helping the Baloi Royal House draft an agreement, which became part of the peace deal between the Philippines and Muslim rebels.

“I was involved in the drafting of the language of the peace agreement, of which the Baloi Royal House was a minority party. The Royal House was caught in the middle of the Philippines Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front,” Adit, who hails from Sebuyau, said yesterday.

His Royal Highness Dr Camad M Ali Hadji Noor Ali Sheikh Abdel Aziz Ali and Datu of Baloi Tengku Henry W Sinclair conferred Jimmy the title late last month.

“My heartiest thanks to Tengku Henry, the adopted son of the Baloi Rajah, for bringing me into the Royal House,” Adit said. Adit began his career in the media industry in 1993, when he joined The Borneo Sun.

He joined The Star last year.
