Donald Lim joins attack over Batu Caves condo project

KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor government "is not doing its job" when it failed to stop the 29-storey condominium project in Batu Caves, said Selangor MCA chief Datuk Donald Lim.
He said it was unacceptable that the state government now shift the blame by accusing the previous Barisan Nasional-led government of approving the project.
"When you are in power and you say that other people approved the project, tak boleh (it is unacceptable) because if you are the Mentri Besar, the state exco can overrule all the projects in the state," he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby.
Lim was commenting on the claims by the Opposition that it was Barisan that approved the project in 2007 when it was in control of the state.
"The Barisan-led state government only approved an application to plan a commercial project in that area.
"The application to build the condominium was approved by the state government's one-stop centre on June 26, 2008," he said, adding that the state government at that time was led by Pakatan Rakyat.
When told that Pakatan councillors were only sworn into office in July 2008, Lim said: "You are the state government that controls the council. The state is entitled to overrule the council. So, this means they have to do their job."
He added that he was unsure if it was Barisan councillors who gave the green light on June 26, 2008 for the project, stressing that the state government had the responsibility to stop it due to safety concerns
