By MAIZATUL NAZLINA

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has fixed five days from Apr 15 for the trial of three friends charged with kidnapping 12-year-old Dutch national Nayati Moodliar last April.

High Court deputy registrar Noor Aini Yusof also set Dec 4 for case management.

Self-employed Chong Tat Siong, 23, handphone seller Foong Khar Fai, 19, unemployed Lee Phak Seng, 23, and another still at large were charged with kidnapping the boy with the intent to extort RM300,000 in ransom from the boy's parents.

The offence was alleged to have been committed at Jalan Kiara 1, Mont Kiara here at about 7.30am on April 27.

The offence under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961 carries a death penalty or life imprisonment and possible whipping if spared the death penalty, upon conviction.

Nayati was on his way to Mont Kiara International school near his home on April 27 when he was abducted by two men in a black car.

He was released at the Sungai Buloh rest and recreation area on May 3.

On May 22, the trio were first brought before magistrate Erry Shahriman Nor Aripin to face the charge against them.

No plea was recorded.

On Sept 28, magistrate Erry Shahriman transferred the case to the High Court.
