Bangladeshi gets 10 months' jail for molesting salesgirl

KUALA LUMPUR: A Bangladeshi restaurant worker was jailed 10 months and fined RM5,000 by a Magistrates Court in Ampang here for molesting a salesgirl last month.
Magistrate Zulyana Zoolkapli sentenced Md Hasan Miah in default six months' jail after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Md Hasan, 25, was charged with outraging the modesty of the 33-year-old salesgirl by pulling her hand, hugging and groping her body at a garment shop in Ampang Jaya at about 9.45pm on Oct 22.
He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code (Act 574), which carries a maximum of 10 years' jail or a fine or whipping or any two of the punishments, if convicted.
In mitigation, Md Hasan who was unrepresented said that he hoped the court would give him a lower sentence as he wanted to go back to his country.
