EC displaying supplementary electoral rolls until Nov 6

KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) has put on display the supplementary electoral rolls for the third quarter of 2012 at 952 places nationwide until Nov 6.

EC secretary Datuk Kamaruddin Mohamed Baria said the rolls comprised 106,168 new applications for registration as voters and 29,046 applications for change of polling district.

He said each application, which went through 148 vetting processes to determine its authenticity, would be further reviewed if it was doubtful so that only qualified applicants were registered in the electoral rolls.

Kamaruddin said objections could be made by completing Form C, and a petitioner could file objections against not more than 20 people.

He said the forms must be submitted to the registrar (state election director) on weekdays during the period of the electoral rolls display.

"Objection should be warranted and not as a means to deny the right of citizens to register as voters or to belittle the EC's role in registering voters," he said.

Objections can be made against applicants who are not residing in the area registered, non-citizens and those who have died, he said, adding that every objection would be investigated by the state election office.

Meanwhile, he said the EC encouraged voters who had changed their address to apply to change their polling centre.

"They should first change their address in the identity card with the National Registration Department before applying to change the address of their polling centre at the EC or the post office," he said.

The electoral rolls can be verified by visiting the EC's website, calling 03-8885 6565, or visiting any EC counter, the EC headquarters in Putrajaya, or the state election office. - Bernama
