Malaysian netizens urged to be mature in using social media

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has called on Malaysian netizens to be more mature users of social media.

Noting that social media had no boundaries in terms of disseminating information, he said such a powerful tool should be used for worthwhile purposes.

These, he said, included reaching out to others on matters such as traffic conditions, floods, accidents and so on.

"Like in the United States, people turn to social media to reach out and offer help to those affected by the devastating Hurricane Sandy," he told reporters at the soft launch of the Malaysia Social Media Week 2013 here Friday.

Organised by the Malaysia Social Media Chambers with the cooperation of the Information, Communications and Culture Ministry, the event is scheduled for Feb 26 to March 3, next year.

Meanwhile, Khairy lauded the Government for its use of social media to help spread relevant information. - Bernama
