By YUEN MEIKENG

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Land Public Transport Master Plan, which addresses public transportation issues, will be presented to the Cabinet next month, says Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan.

He said the plan was ready and included ways to deal with issues faced by school buses, interim stage buses and improvements to the public transport system as a whole.

"After it is approved by the Cabinet, we will implement it for the benefit of commuters," he told the Dewan Rakyat when answering a supplementary question from Azan Ismail (PKR - Indera Mahkota).

Azan had asked when the ministry planned to solve the need for public transportation, especially, buses in rural and suburban areas.

Ahmad said a total of 108 bus companies had applied for financial aid under the Interim Stage Bus Support Fund.

"This is a short term measure to ensure that services can continue to be provided in rural and suburban areas," he said.

He added that some RM49.7mil have been channelled via the fund and applications had been extended to next year.
