Festival blast kills four, injures 17 in Peru


LIMA: Fireworks exploded a fuel canister during a festival in northern Peru on Sunday killing four people and leaving 17 others injured, police said.

The incident occurred in the town of Rio Seco, in the region of Cajamarca, during a festival dedicated to the patron saint of the town.

An unexplained "spark" ignited some fireworks close to a fuel cylinder, which exploded next to the audience.

The injured, including two policemen, were admitted to the regional hospital. - AFP
