Fernandes: Richard Branson to wear red skirt and serve drinks on an AirAsia flight in May
By PATRICK LEE
PETALING JAYA: Virgin Group billionaire Richard Branson will don a red skirt and serve drinks on an AirAsia flight in May next year, according to a tweet by AirAsia group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes.
“Now here is a man with honor @richardbranson who just contacted me to honor his bet. He will be an airasia stewardess in may on Airasia,” Fernandes tweeted.
He said although Branson was two years late on a bet he had previously made with him, the British mogul did not renege on it.
In December 2009, Branson challenged Fernandes's Lotus F1 team to beat his Virgin Racing group in the 2010 Formula 1 championship season.
The loser was to wear a skirt and serve as a stewardess' on the winner's airline.
The Virgin boss finished behind Fernandes but later injured his knee in 2011 and had to put off honouring the bet.
News reports, after he lost the bet, said Branson would have to wear a specially tailored uniform to fit his 180cm frame, and would be serving passengers on a chartered flight between Kuala Lumpur and London.
It was added that all proceeds from the flight would go towards the charity of Branson's choice.
However, AirAsia has ceased flying to London.
