Decomposing body of newborn found in garbage dump
By MUGUNTAN VANAR
KOTA KINABALU: A newborn baby with the umbilical cord still attached was found dead at a garbage dump in Kg Warisan here.
Believed to be about three days old, the baby was found inside a plastic bag by villagers at about 4.30pm on Wednesday, Kota Kinabalu City Police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said Thursday.
He said the baby's gender had yet to be identified due to the decomposing state of the body.
The body had been sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post mortem, he said.
Investigations were being carried out under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandonment of a child under 12-years-old by a parent or person caring for the child, he added.
