Suspect clad in a pink t-shirt and black long pants KLANG: A 49-year-old local surrendered himself to the immigration authorities and was remanded Thursday for two days in connection with 105 foreign maids held captive in a maid agency at Bandar Baru Klang and rescued on Dec 1.
The man, clad in a pink t-shirt and black long pants, was said to be the general manager of the licensed maid agency and the 13th suspect detained by the Selangor Immigration Department.
The man was escorted to the Magistrates' court here by the Immigration Department at 11am on Thursday.
Magistrate Suhaimah Mohd Nor granted the remand.
Immigration officers rescued 105 foreign women found locked in a four-storey maid agency in Bandar Baru Klang here during a 7.47am raid on Saturday.
The women, aged between 18 and 25 years, were locked up at level three and four of the premises, located above the maid agency.
All the women - 95 Indonesians, 6 Filipinos and 4 Cambodians had only social visit passes and were believed to have entered the country in the last one to six months.
The authorities arrested 12 people, including three local men, believed to be employees.
The rest were women - five Indonesians, three Cambodians and a Filipino - who were believed to be supervisors of the rescued women.
Initial investigations showed that all the rescued women were promised other jobs but were duped.
They ended up being maids providing daily cleaning services and were not paid for six months.
