SHAH ALAM: Sacked PAS leader Datuk Dr Hasan Ali has been actively sabotaging Pakatan Rakyat as he wanted to become Selangor mentri besar, alleges Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad.

Khalid, who is also Selangor PAS deputy commissioner, said former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had agreed to appoint Dr Hasan as Mentri Besar if PAS and Umno had formed a unity state government after the 2008 general election.

He added that about 10 days before the new mentri besar was sworn in, he went with Dr Hasan and PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali to meet Abdullah and former mentri besar Datuk Seri Dr Khir Toyo.

Abdullah was concerned that the Selangor administration might become a minority Malay government.

“I gave an easy solution: Umno can loan five seats to PAS. But Pak Lah said no.

“We then said: Why should we join forces with Umno?' ” he said at his office here yesterday.

Khalid said no agreement was reached and Dr Hasan's ambition to become mentri besar was dashed.

He also claimed that Dr Hasan fed negative reports about the Selangor government to PAS, and during meetings, he had proposed that the party leave Pakatan.

Dr Hasan could not be reached for comment.
