Committee to look into complaints against Rama and Nga

KUALA LUMPUR: Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy and Perak DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming are to face the DAP disciplinary committee over separate issues.

Committee chairman Tan Kok Wai said it would look into the complaints lodged against Dr Ramasamy over various breaches of discipline and the allegation that Nga abused his powers as a state executive councillor during the administration of the PKR-DAP-PAS Opposition pact in Perak.

“The committee will meet on Thursday at 4pm to look into these,” he told Bernama.

Four complaints have been lodged against Dr Ramasamy while one has been brought by the party’s Greenwood branch in Ipoh against Nga.

Dr Ramasamy was involved in a war of words recently with DAP chairman Karpal Singh, which resulted in a gag order being imposed and the party’s top leadership forming a three-man panel to resolve the issue.

The high-powered panel comprising DAP lifelong advisor Dr Chen Man Hin, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng announced that the “godfather-warlord” spat was over.

“I hope the party members will not go to the media to highlight the party’s disciplinary matters. He (Karpal Singh) can always call me to check when we are going to meet,” Tan said.

Tan was responding to a statement by Karpal in George Town earlier, urging the party’s disciplinary committee to meet soon to decide on the complaints against Dr Ramasamy.

Also, in a surprising turn of event, Karpal extended his support to The Star for standing by its report on Dec 23, headlined ‘Distress in DAP continues’, concerning Dr Ramasamy.

This follows talk that Dr Ramasamy would file a defamation suit against the newspaper tomorrow.

“I support The Star in having stood up against Dr Ramasamy over his denial of his statement that DAP leaders had asked him for projects.

“You can’t just go around accusing DAP leaders of corrupt practices.

“I think the allegations he made were unwarranted, unjustified and indefensible,” Karpal said.
