Indonesia to intensify efforts to send maids to Malaysia

JAKARTA: Indonesia's Manpower and Transmigration Ministry has intensified cooperation and coordination with provinces and local authorities involved in recruiting maids who will be send to Malaysia next month.

Its Development, Protection and Placement of Migrant Workers Division director-general Reyna Usman said this was crucial for the smooth process of sending maids to Malaysia.

"This is to ensure no maid is sent without legitimate documents," he said on Sunday.

Currently, he said, the ministry was updating the profiles of maids who would be sent to Malaysia.

The 16 provinces involved in the recruitment of maids for Malaysia are Banten, Jakarta, West Jawa, Central Jawa, Yogyakarta, East Jawa, Lampung, North Sumatera, South Sumatera, Riau, Riau Islands, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, Central Celebes, Maluku and Bali.

Indonesia withdrew a moratorium on the placing of its maids to Malaysia on Dec 1, last year.

However, it needed three months to prepare them according to procedures agreed upon by both nations. - Bernama
