PM: Malaysia's support for Palestinian cause remains steadfast

By MAZWIN NIK ANIS

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia remains steadfast in its support towards the Palestinian cause, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Prime Minister said despite a recent statement made by Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in support of Israel's national security concerns, the Palestinian government was aware that Malaysia's stance on Palestinian issues has always been consistent.

"Malaysia has been supportive of the Palestinian cause in the past and it will continue to be so," the Prime Minister said Tuesday.

The Prime Minister was commenting on the disappointment expressed by the Palestinian government over Anwar's statement on Israel.

This was conveyed by Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh to al-Quds Malaysia Foundation management board chairman Nasharuddin Mat Isa during the latter's visit to Kuwait recently.

Anwar had reportedly said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that he supported "all efforts to protect the security of the state of Israel."
