MCA blasts Kedah MB over '30% rebate' issue
PETALING JAYA: Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak has been lambasted for being "unaware" of the alleged request by some state executive councillors' agents for a 30% cut from allocations meant for non-governmental organisations and Chinese temples.
MCA Young Professionals Bureau chairman Datuk Chua Tee Yong said it was unacceptable for the Mentri Besar to claim ignorance and criticised him for not ordering an investigation into the matter.
"As Mentri Besar, there is no excuse to claim of being unaware of incidents befalling Kedah, whether the people intended to cover it up or not.
"Being unaware is not an acceptable excuse to shirk responsibility. 'Being unaware' can show that state administration is not standardised and betrays the leaders' inefficiency," he said in a statement Tuesday.
It was reported that some Pakatan Rakyat representatives have been asking for 30% "rebate money" from the allocations given to Chinese associations in the state.
Azizan had said he was shocked by the claims of kickbacks and would not take the allegations lightly.
Chua urged Azizan to give a valid explanation to all Kedahans and to "reveal the truth and unveil the masks of Pakatan's exco members in Kedah."
"Requesting a 30% cut from state allocations is tantamount to corruption and bribery.
"Furthermore, nine organisations have come out to show proof and requested the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) to investigate the practice.
"This incident also proves that contrary to PAS claiming that there is no corruption under its governance, corruption and bribery still permeate in states under PAS administration," said Chua, who is also the Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister and Labis MP.
