Liow slams those ‘manipulating’ ongoing 1Care healthcare reform discussions
By LOH FOON FONG
KUALA LUMPUR: Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai hit out at “certain quarters” that had manipulated information on the 1Care healthcare reform ongoing discussions.
He said that he had mentioned many times that all discussions on 1Care was only at the preliminary level.
“There is a lot of manipulation by certain quarters to confuse the public and this is very unfortunate because 1Care programme is an ongoing transformation effort to uplift the healthcare systems in the country,” he said in a press conference after the launch of PhAMA Industry Fact book.
Liow said that one of the areas that they kept focusing on was the 10% figure which they say individuals have to pay.
“This is a false figure and they are trying to scare the people.
“They know very well that the contributions include three parties - the Government, employers and employees - but there are certain quarters who try to confuse the people and say that it the 10% is from employees, which is totally wrong.” he said.
Moreover, the discussion was only at a very preliminary level and had not come to the Ministry level, he said.
“We will take note of the concerns raised by the public,” he said.
