Football star fields another controversy

FOOTBALL star Khairul Fahmi Che Mat became a victim of vandals when his business office in Kota Baru was splashed with black paint on Sunday.

The first-choice national goalie, known to his fans as Apek, said the incident, however, would not dampen his love for football.

“Challenge after challenge comes my way and I become more spirited and mature,” he told Kosmo!, adding he was leaving it to police to probe the incident at Khairul Fahmi Resources Sdn Bhd (KFR).

It was the third such incident since Feb 5.

KFR manager Seiyed Ahmad Mohamad Yusoff said when the first incident occurred, they brushed it off as just a prank by some naughty boys.

“But after two more incidents, we are starting to suspect that something is not right,” he said, adding that Apek and KFR officials lodged their police report at the Kota Baru police headquarters on Sunday afternoon

Khairul Fahmi was recently the subject of gossip as being the cause of a couple breaking off their engagement.

The woman implicated in the issue has denied having any relationship with the goalkeeper.

Pictures of him looking flushed in a restaurant had also surfaced on the Internet, triggering speculation that he had been drinking alcohol. He has refuted this.

> A syndicate is allegedly cheating students with fraudulent courses in higher education institutions, Sinar Harian reported.

The paper's probe team reported the syndicate would randomly send “offer letters” to students to pursue various diploma and certificate courses with logos of the Human Resource Ministry in their letters.

The students and their parents are then invited to a talk, where they are asked to pay RM400 as a pre-registration fee for their courses.

The ministry has denied involvement in issuing the offer letters as well as organising the talk.

> A policeman almost had his left ear severed after a man he was arresting bit him in a struggle to escape in Kuala Terengganu on Sunday.

The handcuffed 34-year-old suspect had earlier been held at the Gong Badak police station, Kosmo! reported.

Pretending he wanted to vomit, the suspect pushed away Kons Amran Yahya and fled.

The constable then gave chase and pounced on the suspect.

In the ensuing struggle, the suspect bit the policeman's ear, prompting the policeman to fire two shots. A bullet hit the suspect in the leg.

Terengganu CID chief Asst Comm K. Manoharan said several policemen rushed out to help Kons Amran when they heard the shots.

Both the policeman and the suspect were sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for treatment. Their condition was reportedly stable.
