Johor cops strict on staying drug-free

JOHOR BARU: Police will take action against officers and personnel found to be involved in substance abuse, Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Shariff said here.

He said police had initiated action against 42 officers and personnel in the state for drug abuse last year.

“We take a serious stand against offences committed by our personnel,” he said.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar said most of those involved in substance abuse had consumed synthetic drugs such as methamphetamine and ketamine.

“I urge commanding officers to play an important role in disci- plining their officers and personnel and ensure that they are drug- free.

“The state police have introduced a mechanism such as the discipline and drug control scheme to make sure that no one in the force is involved in taking drugs,” he said at the state police monthly assembly here yesterday.

His speech was read out by his deputy Datuk Ismail Yatim.

On another matter, he said state police recorded a drop of 16.24% in crime cases last month compared to same period last year with 1,619 cases.
