Pregnant mum denied entry to KL-bound flight, delivers still-born baby at airport

CHENNAI: A pregnant Indian passenger, who was denied permission to board a Malaysia-bound flight due to safety concerns, delivered a still-born baby on Thursday at the airport here after developing labour pains.

A private airline staff at the Anna International Airport barred Shyamala Sundari, 31, from boarding the aircraft, as she did not carry the medical clearance chit to fly the nearly three-hour journey.

She was seven months pregnant.

"When she approached the airline counter to get her boarding pass, staff requested for a medical certificate but Shyamala could not produce one.

"There was a verbal quarrel and she developed labour pains and tried to rush to the restroom but collapsed. She delivered the baby in the restroom," a vernacular daily here reported Friday.

The woman was rushed to a private hospital for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.

Shyamala, from the state of Andhra Pradesh, was on her way to meet her husband working in Kuala Lumpur. - Bernama
