Penang Umno shows proof of Bayan Mutiara land

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Umno wants the Penang Chief Minister to quit politics and the post as promised if there is proof that the sale of Bayan Mutiara land was done through negotiations.

Its Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman said there was evidence that a 41.6-hectare piece of land there was sold for RM1.1bil through negotiations to Ivory Group.

"Among the evidence is a letter from Ivory Group to Bursa Malaysia offering to buy and develop the land.

"The letter was dated March 31, 2011 whilst the tender advertised by the land owner, Penang Development Corporation, expired on Dec 31, 2010," he told a press conference here.

He said the open tender for the purchase of the land did not take place in the true sense of the word as only two firms took part.

Earlier, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng offered to retire from politics if proven that the Bayan Mutiara land sale was not done via open tender.
