KUALA LUMPUR: PAS Youth says there is no rift between the party and PKR over Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's alleged statement supporting action to safeguard Israel.

PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi said PAS spiritual leader Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat's request for Anwar to retract his statement should be seen in a positive light.

“He (Nik Aziz) is a senior politician and it should be seen as just an advice from another leader. There is nothing wrong with that,” he told reporters during a press conference at PAS headquarters, yesterday.

It was reported that Nik Aziz had told Anwar to either openly retract his statement or sue The Wall Street Journal.

On Jan 26, Anwar reportedly said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that he supported “all efforts to protect the security of the state of Israel”.

Nasrudin said Pakatan Rakyat practised freedom of speech and its leaders were allowed to air different views.

“We do not practise the yes-man' culture where all of us simply follow our leaders without questioning them,” he added.

He also reaffirmed the party's stand of opposing the two-state solution to the Palestinian problem.

“As a Muslim, we can never accept the two-state solution as that will betray our Muslim brothers and sisters in Palestine,” he said.

Asked to comment on the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council's clarification that there was no misuse of the zakat (tithe) funds, Nasrudin urged the Government to reveal all the details and audits of accounts involving the matter.

“We are scheduled to meet Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom at the end of the month to discuss the matter,” he said.
