LOCAL women, especially housewives and factory workers, have been advised to be wary of astrologers from India who attempt to make money through various ways, reported Malaysia Nanban.

Consumers Association of Penang officer N.V. Subbarao said there had been an influx of these astrologers due to the Ponggal and Thaipusam celebrations.

He said these astrologers convinced their clients that they would be facing difficult times and would have to undertake “special prayers” to overcome them and charged exorbitant rates for their services.

Subbarao said some frightened their clients by saying that there were ghosts in their house or their neighbour was involved in black magic. They would then get the clients to perform exorcism ceremonies which cost a bomb.

Subbarao said some claimed they had special talismans blessed at famous Hindu temples and charged hundreds of ringgit for them.

> Counterfeit Indian currency notes are being “released” into circulation in an attempt to destablise India's economy, reported Makkal Osai.
