Rela staff, cops queried over assault on mechanic

KAJANG: Police have recorded statements from nine Rela personnel and three policemen over the assault of a mechanic here on Feb 16.

OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said investigations showed that Rela personnel found the "victim" trespassing into a TNB sub-station in Kampung Cheras Baru on the date of the incident.

He said the mechanic was detained after hiding in some bushes for an hour and taken to the police station for questioning.

"His allegation that Rela and policemen assaulted him have yet to be proven as the three cops he mentioned were not on duty at the time.

"The mechanic was behaving suspiciously in the wee hours and ran away when Rela personnel confronted him.

"We are still waiting to record his statement," he said adding that the mechanic lodged a report four days after the alleged incident.

Last week, S. Morgan, 42, from Balakong, told a press conference that he was assaulted by Rela personnel after filling petrol in Taman Balakong Jaya, Kajang.

He claimed that four policemen hit him using a water hose at the Taming Jaya police station and forced him to admit to vehicle and cable thefts, pushing drugs and house break-ins.
