Civil servant claims police refused to take report

KUALA LUMPUR: A civil servant Thursday claimed that a policewoman at the Shah Alam Police Headquarters in Selangor refused to accept a report she had wanted to lodge on a syndicate's attempt to cheat her.

The 28-year-old victim, who declined to be named, said she had gone to make the report at 5.30pm Wednesday but was discouraged by the policewoman on the grounds that she had not incurred any losses.

"She also told me that the case was nothing out of the ordinary and that many more had fallen victim," she said here.

A man claiming to be one "Inspector Kamarul Hisham from Bukit Aman" had contacted the victim on Wednesday, alleging that she was a victim of a fraud syndicate which was crippled last year.

"The 'inspector' said following the arrest of the syndicate leader, they also seized 200 identification cards and bank books, one of which belonged to me.

"The 'inspector' then asked for some details regarding my bank accounts to supposedly clear my name from being blacklisted by Bank Negara, after which I immediately headed to the police station to report on the suspicious allegations made," said the victim.

She said she had wanted to make a report so that something could be done to prevent others from falling victim to such syndicates and possibily losing large sums of money.

"Although I did not lose money, there is a possibility my accounts could be tampered with as I had revealed some of my personal details," she added.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam Police Chief ACP Zahedi Ayob, when contacted, said this should not have happened and their personnel should take any reports that the community wants to make.

"Even though the victim hasn't experienced losses, the personnel should have still accepted the report," he said. - Bernama
