Bangkok wants Iranian extradited

PUTRAJAYA: Thai authorities have requested the extradition of the Iranian held here in connection with the bomb attack in Bangkok.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the request was made through Wisma Putra.

“It has been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Chambers,” he said.

“I am not able to say how long it will take but I would like him to be extradited as soon as possible,” he told newsmen after addressing the Home Ministry’s monthly gathering here.

Masoud Sadaghat Zadeh, 31, was detained at the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal on Feb 14 when he tried to leave for Iran.

It was reported that Masoud and two other accomplices were also involved in a series of bombings in Bangkok earlier this year.

Hishammuddin said Malaysia had been receiving extradition requests almost every month, including from the US for two detainees who are not American citizens.

“Earlier this year, we extradited several people to Singapore at the request of authorities there,” he said.
