SIMPANG RENGGAM: Overweight Prisons Department officers and personnel must shape up and ensure that they are fit to perform their duties well.

Home Ministry deputy secretary-general (management) Datuk Wahab Mohd Yasin said the department's officers and personnel should take good care to look good because they represented the ministry.

“Personnel who are overweight should attend exercise classes which should be started by the department.

“Officers and personnel must not only be disciplined and carry out their duties with integrity but they should also look good when wearing the department's uniform,” he said after handing out service excellence awards at the Simpang Renggam Prison here yesterday.

On another matter, he said the ministry would come up with better programmes to ensure the safety of the country and its citizen.

Wahab added that despite using the latest technology to fight crime, more could be done for the safety of all.

“One of the key programmes introduced by the ministry last month is the 1Malaysia patrols where other agencies under the Home Ministry are involved in joint patrols with the police,” he said.

He said the Prisons Department would participate in the patrols.
