Himpunan Hijau 2.0 organisers agree to change location

KUANTAN: The organisers of the anti-Lynas Himpunan Hijau 2.0 rally have agreed to change the location to the MPK4 field in Kemunting here.

They arrived at the decision after being told by Kuantan OCPD ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff that the MPK1 field, the original venue, had been closed for upgrading.

ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff said police would allow the rally to take place from 10am to noon on Sunday with several conditions.

“Participants must not bring any weapons or explosives. The rally also cannot touch on politics and the Sultan,” he said after meeting with the organisers here yesterday.

He also said police would facilitate the rally by directing participants to parking spaces and drop-off points as well as maintain peace.

Himpunan Hijau chairman Wong Tack said they would accept the new venue on the understanding that there would be no obstruction for anyone coming to Kuantan to take part in the gathering.

MP for Kuantan Fuziah Salleh said the rally would be the first since the Peaceful Assembly Act was passed in Parliament and gazetted on Feb 9.

“We look forward to its implementation and towards a peaceful assembly on Sunday.

“The rakyat should have no fear now that the police have given their word on the matter,” she said.
