Mindef wants more non-bumis to join armed forces

GEORGE TOWN: Non-bumiputras are urged to join the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) as their participation was still low, said Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Ahmad.

To achieve the objective, information was being disseminated on national security and sovereignty.

"Numerous facilities and benefits are now provided for soldiers. Hopefully, the Mindef 1 carnival will lure non-bumiputras to join the armed forces," he told reporters after opening the Mindef 1 carnival here, Saturday.

The two-day carnival to be held from Feb 25-26 would educate the local communities on their duties to look after the country and to raise their patriotism.

He hoped the carnival would also prompt youths to know more about the career of a soldier and the prospects of becoming a soldier.

Ismail said that, from time to time, Mindef sought to improve its performance and services covering management, operations and training. - Bernama
