MORE Indians are now giving their support to Barisan Nasional, MIC deputy president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said.

Tamil Nesan quoted him as saying that this was because Barisan had been carrying out many community projects that benefited the Indians.

For example, he said about RM8mil was channelled to Suria Cooperatives, a vehicle to help raise the economic status of the Indians, while funds via micro-credit would be provided for Indian businessmen.

Subramaniam was speaking to reporters after launching a book titled The Dancing Girl: A History of Early Indians by former Singapore senior foreign affairs minister the late Dr S. Balaji on Tuesday.

> Malaysia Nanban reported that a group of 43 Malaysians who had paid a tourist agency for a visit to China last year have claimed that they were cheated.

The group's leader M. Mariayee said they paid almost RM80,000 to the tourist agency and were supposed to leave in May when they discovered that they did not have the flight tickets.

The agency manager claimed that an employee had absconded with the money and promised to resolve the matter.

“It's been seven months now and nothing has happened.

“The manager has avoided my calls, too,” Mariayee said.

She said she had used the agency's services in the past to travel to Sri Lanka and Thailand without problems.
