PM: Their guessing on polls date will eventually come true
MARANG: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has laughed off talk that Parliament will be dissolved next week to make way for the 13th general election.
The Prime Minister said the election could be held any time as long as it was before April 2013.
“They keep on guessing (the date). One day they will get it right.
“Many factors need to be considered before timing for the election can be determined,” he told reporters after a meet-the-rakyat session in the Rhu Rendang state constituency.
Talk is rife that Parliament will be dissolved after Thaipusam, which falls on Tuesday. The Prime Minister was amused when asked about this possibility.
“Earlier, people speculated that it (the election) would be in November, and they will continue to speculate.
“Right now, I am concentrating on going to the ground and meeting the rakyat.
“These turun padang sessions involve all leaders because we want to increase the people’s confidence and trust towards Barisan Nasional,” he said.
On the dissolution of Kita, the Prime Minister said political parties must have the resilience to achieve their struggles.
Kita president Datuk Zaid Ibrahim announced on Thursday that the year-old party would be dissolved, citing that forming it was a mistake as it had failed in its aim of being a party that supported moderate and progressive ideas.
The decision drew flak from members who have called on him to step down instead.
