Gag order shows no respect given to Kedah MB
By EMBUN MAJID
ALOR SETAR: The gag order issued on Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak shows his position as the state leader is not respected by Pakatan Rakyat.
Kedah Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said as the Opposition in the state, he respected Azizan as its chosen leader and felt the Mentri Besar should not be restricted from voicing his opinion.
He said Kedah Umno also acknowledged Azizan's stand on the suspension of five students by Kolej Universiti Insaniah (KUIN) because he did not interfere in the decision.
"We were surprised that his stand did not received support from his peers within the party itself. They continuously criticise Azizan, condemning him for his stand and that clearly showed that they do not respect Azizan," he told reporters after presenting cash contributions to 320 UPSR and PMR scorers in the Alor Setar Umno division here Saturday.
He was commenting on the gag order issued to Azizan that refrained him from speaking on the Universities and University Colleges Act (UUCA) 1971 and also KUIN.
Azizan was reported as saying the order came from top PAS leader.
Ahmad Bashah added it also showed PAS central leaders bowed to demands from PKR and DAP and were willing to sacrifice one of its leaders for the sake of winning the next general election.
He also said there was no denying that were efforts from within the party to oust Azizan.
