THE University of Southampton Malaysia Campus is offering students an affordable option to pursue top-notch engineering programmes with the British university.

The University of Southampon Malaysia Campus chief executive officer Prof John McBride said its campus in EduCity, Iskandar Malaysia, Johor, would provide students with a unique learning experience.

“Our mechanical engineering courses are highly rated in university league tables and currently ranked ‘Number One’ in the United Kingdom (UK) by the Guardian’s University Guide 2012, as they have been for the past two years,” he said.

He said students would be able to study in Malaysia for the first two years of the programme, followed by two years at Southampton’s UK campus.

Prof McBride says that the varsity’s mechanical engineering courses are highly rated.

The MEng Mechanical Engineering has a flexible structure where students will study core mechanical engineering topics.

They can also follow an inter-disciplinary programme or choose to specialise in areas such as bioengineering, advanced materials, aerospace, automotive, engineering management, mechatronics or sustainable energy systems.

Prof McBride said the university had started to accept applications from students.

For those who need financial aid to fund their studies, Prof McBride said the university would be offering qualified students an inauguration scholarship worth RM4,000 for the first two years of the degree.

According to the university’s website, when students transfer to the UK campus for parts three and four, they will receive a 20% scholarship worth approximately £3,000 (RM14,400) per annum.

It also stated that there will be a number of externally-funded scholarships for top students.
