ALOR SETAR: A group of students from a secondary school in Kulim are afraid to attend school.

They claim that they are being bullied by their schoolmates.

The students said the latest bullying incident occurred on Feb 2 when the bullies beat up a Form Three male student inside a classroom during school hours.

The victim, who suffered bruises on his face and body, has since lodged a police report over the matter.

Kulim assemblyman Lim Soo Nee claimed that the culprits were from the same school.

The police have yet to pick up any suspects, he said.

Lim said a group of 10 students, aged between 13 and 17, together with their parents came to see him at his service centre in Kulim yesterday to lodge complaints about the alleged bullying.

He said the students told him that the bullying had been a long-standing problem in the school.

“I was told that the students had reported the bullying to their teachers but no action had been taken,” he said.

Lim, who is a Kedah executive councillor, said the students also expressed their fear of going to school.

However, he has encouraged them to continue attending classes.

He said he would meet the school’s principal and the district education officer.

Kedah Education Department director Mansor Lat said he has yet to receive any report but said he would investigate the claims.
