No ill-will or anger over mosque vandalism

RAWANG: The spirit of brotherhood and forgiveness prevailed as the crowd gathered at a mosque here to celebrate Maulidur Rasul (Prophet Muhammad’s birthday).

It has been barely a week since an abhorrent act of vandalism at the mosque.

But the ugly incident, which occurred on Tuesday has not shaken the congregation of Masjid Nurul Iman.

A large group of people, including members of the Rawang police force, attended the half-day celebration which included a parade into town with banners, kompang and hymns.

Mosque chairman Ilham Akhbar Harun said they harboured no ill-feelings or anger towards anyone over the act of vandalism involving a pig’s head.

“We have put the incident behind us. It was an attempt to provocate but it did not work.

“This has not affected the good relationship we have with the other communities here,” he told The Star.

This is the first time the mosque has encountered such an incident since it was built almost 40 years ago.

“We are unperturbed by what has happened,” he added.
