Marking their big day at a wet market

By MOHD FARHAAN SHAH

JOHOR BARU: Who would have imagined that a wet market will be the setting for a wedding reception.

But the 1,500 guests of newly-weds Erryzuan Topah, 34, and his bride Nurul Jannah Abdullah, 22, did not mind the reception on the top floor of the four-storey Larkin market here.

The idea came from Nurul's father Abdullah Idris he runs a chicken stall at the market.

Happy day: Nurul shaking hands with a vegetable seller during their wedding reception at Larkin market yesterday as Erryzuan and Abdullah (second from left) look on.

Nurul said she was initially sceptical about the venue as she feared no one would attend it.

“But then I realised it would be something unique and different from other weddings.”

Erryzuan said he had no complaints over the venue as not only the guests, but many others at the market witnessed his big day.

The couple had yet to decide on where to go for their honeymoon.

If Erryzuan and Nurul's backdro p for their wedding reception was unusual, their meeting three years ago was equally bizarre.

The groom from Kota Tinggi said he had wanted to call a friend but dialled the wrong number by mistake.

“That mistake led me to my wife.”

Abdullah said his cho ice venue for the reception was to help promote the market.

“Larkin market has ample parking space and the space on the fourth floor is huge enough to hold major events,” the 50-year-old said.
