PETALING JAYA: Parti Kita has been “infiltrated” by people whose sole purpose is to contest in elections and “spoil votes”.

According to the embattled party's central information chief, Mohamed Mazlan Abdul Manaf, party president Datuk Zaid Ibrahim's call to dissolve the party was his personal view and would be discussed at their central executive committee meeting at the end of this month.

Mohamed Mazlan said the dissolution would be a last resort if the party could not purge the “infiltrators”.

“If the party can be freed from infestation by undesirable elements and infiltrators without dissolution, then it is a preferred option.

“However, if the leadership feels that the best way to prevent the party from being a vehicle to abuse the electoral process is to close the it, then that will be the decision taken,” said Mohamed Mazlan in a statement yesterday.

“As the membership of the party grew, we have unfortunately been infiltrated by members whose sole agenda appears to be to contest the next general election.

“While we welcome members who genuinely wish to contest in the elections and to fight for the party's manifesto and principles, we will not field candidates whose objective is to spoil votes, and who are being used by certain groups to achieve their political aims,” he said.

He added that such conduct was “despicable” and against party principles, and that the party does not condone dirty tactics and gutter politics.

Parti Kita, which stands for Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air, was launched on Jan 19 last year as a non-partisan party.

After a series of eyebrow-raising episodes, including the sacking of several central committee members as well as the sudden public apology to Zaid's one-time political nemesis Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Zaid last Thursday announced that forming the party was a mistake and that he would move to dissolve it.

However, other state chiefs have rallied against him calling for his resignation instead.
