Guan Eng slammed for remarks about white ang pow
By P. ARUNA
PETALING JAYA: MCA Youth has accused DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng of having “no sense of responsibility” in his statements over the “white ang pow” incident.
Its national deputy chairman, Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said Lim had deliberately ignored the fact that DAP had helped put Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali into Parliament when he contested under the PAS banner during the 12th general elections.
He described Lim's allegations about MCA's involvement in the incident as “slander and accusations”.
“PAS, with the help of DAP, were the ones who put Datuk Ibrahim Ali into Parliament as thus, they are the ones who should bear the responsibility for his actions,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He added that Sri Desa MCA branch chairman Collin Tiew, who was present at Perkasa's open house at the time, had taken responsibility for his actions and resigned from all party positions.
“This displays the value of taking responsibility over one's own actions,” he said.
The issue of MCA's ties with Perkasa surfaced when a MCA branch chairman was spotted at a Chinese New Year open house in which Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali gave out money in white packets, which is a taboo in the Chinese culture.
On Tuesday, Lim, who is the Penang Chief Minister, had urged MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek to ban party members from attending Perkasa events, saying Ibrahim had been insensitive by distributing white ang pow packets during a Chinese New Year do.
Ibrahim had also urged the Chinese community not to be influenced by Lim's statement, saying it did not promote harmony between the races.
Dr Mah added that the DAP was the actual culprit as it was sacrificing the interests of the Chinese community and non-Muslims in the country for its own personal intentions by colluding with PAS to implement the hudud law.
