Police unmask Geng Topeng

BY STEVEN DANIEL

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have foiled two robbery gangs, including the Geng Topeng, with the arrest of 16 members.

City police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the nine members of Geng Topeng, ages between 18 and 30, used stockings and masks to cover their faces when carrying out the robberies.

He said they were involved in at least 15 cases in Sentul and Cheras since January this year, raking in over half a million ringgit worth of cash, valuables, jewelleries and luxury cars.

He said the other gang of seven members, ages between 20 and 35, targetted luxury homes in condominiums here, Penang and Selangor.

Mohmad said one of the cases involved a victim who lost RM1.5mil worth of valuables in Mont Kiara on March 11.

The suspects were arrested in Klang on March 16.

Mohmad said the suspects would posed as residents of the condominiums or apartments. They would break into a unit upon finding that no one was at home.
