Stop defending Mong, Bandar Kuching MP urges BN leaders

KUCHING: State Barisan Nasional politicians have been urged not to defend the “indefensible”.

Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen said various state Barisan leaders had come up in defence of Assistant Agriculture Minister Datuk Mong Dagang, who was alleged to have written a letter to the Agriculture Department to cancel the fertiliser subsidy and welfare assistance to a pro-Opposition and physically-challenged farmer.

“Even the Barisan leaders from peninsula like Datuk Seri Koh Tsu Koon and Kota Belud MP Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan have criticised Mong for his actions,” said Chong at a press conference here yesterday.

Mong, who stood by his decision, said there were other more deserving cases than farmer Frusis Lebi’s, a 52-year-old from Sri Aman.

PRS president and Land Development Minister Tan Sri Dr James Masing was quoted as saying by a local daily a few days ago that as a rule of life, one should not go against the boss.

Masing made the statement in defence of Mong, who is PRS vice-president.

On another matter, Chong urged the police to call off the roadblocks which had been intensified lately as it had caused massive traffic congestion.

He said he had received many complaints from the public regarding the matter, with the most recent one in Kota Samarahan.

“The roadblock in Kota Samarahan had caused massive traffic jam, resulting in long queues up to 4km as the road is a single lane.

“I have informed the police of the matter and the reason given was that it is to prevent car theft.

“However, the traffic police’s job is to facilitate the traffic flow and not otherwise,” he added.
